In Kyusho Veritas



Veritas -
n.

Latin, literally "truth, truthfulness," from verus "true" (see very ). Latin phrase in vino veritas is attributed to Pliny the Elder, though there is a Greek version of it.

Kyusho is the study of how the body works.  It is a study of not only the self defense aspects of survival, but also the health aspects.

For the purpose of today's discussion I am going to focus on Self Defense which includes:

- Energy cultivation (Chi)
- Body Dynamics
- Pressure Point Striking
- Pressure Point Grappling
- Spinal Reflex
and more!





I am going to use Body Dynamics as the focal point of this post.

When you have good Body Dynamics, you have good Energy cultivation.  

When you have good Body Dynamics, you have better Pressure Point Striking.

When you have good Body Dynamics, you have better Pressure Point Grappling.

When you have good Body Dynamics, you have better Spinal Reflex reactions from your opponent.

Each part of the puzzle is intimately interrelated.  Each piece can function by themselves...just not as good as when all the pieces of this puzzle, that we call Kyusho, come together.   

There is truth in pure technique.  Your definition of purity may be different than mine.  Mine is when a technique becomes effortless, but has the potential to be devastating and where all the part of the body are operating in harmony to cause this effect.

There are many people who may have a different definition...my question for you today is...What is your definition of truth in technique?

In most cases, Knowledge is Power. When it comes to the martial arts...if you are teaching...then yes...Knowledge is Power or else no one would seek you out...BUT...Knowledge of what? If all one can do is dazzle someone with their BS, well...then the students, and the instructor for that matter...would have a false sense of security should they ever have to test their skills in a real confrontation. Choices

We make choices each and every day in every thing we do. Think about it for a second... Just the fact that you may or may not have stopped to thin about it...was a choice. You also made a choice to read this blog now, push it off until later, or scroll right on by and not read it at all.  All of these are choices. Choices are basically questions we ask ourselves.  For example..."What should I have for breakfast?  Should I cook something or just pick something up on the way to work?"   Every second of every day we make choices for everything...even whether or not we finish reading this blog.  Hell!  Just me making the decision to write on this topic...was a choice. Growing up my parents had a friend from Ohio that they had met in Barbados.  He would keep all of us entertained all day as we hung out at the pool with him and his wife and then the whole family would go to room 105 for drinks and canned cheese and crackers. Uncle Wil would tell us story after story about him growing up and the trouble he got in growing up during the depression.  He kept us in stitches and to this day, when someone in the family starts part of one of his sayings...someone else is sure to finish it.
