Are you Armed?
Are you Armed?
Having the proper fire power is a necessity these days. Depending on where you live, leaving the house can be an adventure that you did not bargain for.
Now I am not talking about carrying anything with you other than your wit, wisdom, and knowledge of Kyusho.
--------------------
Knowledge is not power...it is potential power. There are many self defense systems in existence and ALL of them have one thing in common...eventually...you must touch someone. This touch can be during striking, grappling, or both.
Why not arm yourself with intel about how the body works? Even a basic understanding of the biomechanics of the body can go a long way with regards to increasing the successful outcome of a self defense situation.
A good understanding of body mechanics can do more than just help you defend yourself. This can also help you move more efficiently. So how does one go about doing this?
There are many books, videos, and courses that one could take. They are a good start, but not enough. The study of motion needs to be in motion. Self defense is a very tactile practice and needs to be practiced in such a way to install the working knowledge of the body while in motion. So not only are you arming yourself on an mental level, but a physically intelligent level as well. This I refer to as your B-IQ™.
Your B-IQ™ is your body's Intelligence Quotient and is an integral part of advanced training. The old ways of training is to train and train until you get it. There are many current martial arts instructors who seem to have the attitude that "eventually the students will get it." This maybe true, but why not help them speed up the process by actually giving them a learning process to accomplish this?.
My personal training is based on this, which is why I wanted to introduce this to you in this article...briefly.
All techniques can always be improved upon first with great body mechanics. As we age, our bodies obviously change, but this is not the only thing that changes. Our thought process as we perform the techniques evolve. The longer we train (years), the more attune we become to our body movements and if we allow ourselves to listen to our bodies...we can evolve even faster.
So we have great body movement...is that all we need? It is definitely a great start! Now what?
We now have a better idea of how our body operates and now we can focus on how to lock and trap, which will help us to understand intuitively how and when our opponent moves.
I will expand more on this next week.
Until next time KO your obstacles by keeping it simple, keeping it safe, and train with PinPoint™ accuracy.
